Cross Country Skiing
Several cross-country ski trails are available from Highway 191 and from Highway 44 along the southern and western rims of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
Snowmobiling
There are seemingly endless backcountry opportunities for winter recreation enthusiasts with groomed and ungroomed snowmobile trails.
Winter Camping
If you're looking for a truly unique experience, cabin rental opportunities on the Ashley include sites such as historic guard stations or yurts.
Guard stations were built in the heart of the Forest to enable fire-fighting and other personnel quick access to areas. These stations were often built in the early part of the 1900s.
You may reserve one of these unique spots by going online to Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777.
Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is not for the faint-hearted, but it - too - abounds. When winter fishing, anglers are encouraged to check first with local businesses or the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources in Dutch John, Utah before going out.
Walk-on ice fishing is permitted on National Forest Lands. Ice fishing is done at the fisherman's own risk. Check out the variety of fishing activities on the Ashley NF website:

The forest adheres to State licensing regulations, including size and quantity limits.
